The Assessment Lead Programme enables education professionals to make their assessment approach more efficient, allowing them to make more reliable judgements about what pupils know, can do and need next.
By generating and using higher quality information on pupil learning, and better integrating assessment with curriculum and pedagogy, teaching can be more responsive to pupil needs.
It is suitable for any context, stage and setting. The programme will encourage you to re-think your approach to assessment, and support you to lead improvement.
The programme is flexible, but structured and well-supported. You will enjoy:
Develop your assessment knowledge, skills and confidence.
You’ll learn sound assessment theory, building the foundations to help you put your learning into practice.
Apply your learning. Get practical and learn from experience.
We will guide you through the process of designing useful, robust assessments – both formative and summative – and then give you the tools, skills, time and opportunity to analyse them.
Drive the improvement of assessment quality and practice across departments, and the whole school.
With practice and guidance, you will become an expert in assessment design and analysis, and begin to lead others on the same journey.
All learning material, tools, resources and support are delivered via a personalised and engaging online learning platform. However, the real learning takes place in your school; applying the theory to your individual context, using the resources, working with colleagues to design and refine your assessments and generally honing your skills to harness the power of assessment in your department or phase!
The aim is to improve the efficiency of assessment as a tool to improve the quality of information that supports effective teaching and learning.
The programme itself provides a framework for improving a school’s in-house assessment approach, both formative and summative.
It includes evidence-based training, practical tools and resources, guidance for implementation, a collaborative model of development, access to a wide network of participants, and expert support, sustained over time.
The programme activates change on three levels:
We have completed the first three sections of the Assessment Lead Programme and are really enjoying it! It is really clear and I like the fact that it is drip feeding me the information through smaller sections. It is also great to have the ideas founded on reliable research and peer-reviewed articles.
Schools desperately need this kind of clear guidance to question the how and the what of their assessment practices. Lots of areas of my direct work will be affected by the Assessment Lead Programme, including pedagogy and supporting schools with learning, curriculum design and questioning their assessment practices.
With their open, frank and enthusiastic demeanor, and their substantive, purposeful and clear explanations, the Evidence Based Education team has been able to move our institution forward by deepening our understanding of the ways in which assessment and data can be used to improve student learning.
Thank you so much for your work on the Assessment Lead Programme - it is superb. I love the content and form; you have created a fantastic course!
£1,200 for a year for an institution. This includes two places on the online programme. (We insist on a minimum of two, because professional development has more impact when people collaborate and support each other!) Additional places are £500 per person.
The school’s senior leader responsible for assessment, plus one middle leader for the initial two places. Additional places can be taken by anyone in school.
Any English-medium primary or secondary school, or FE College that is committed to improving their use of assessment as a tool to support teaching and learning.
