What’s the format?

Assessment Essentials is a great-value, ten-week course on what every teacher needs to know about assessment.

It responds directly to the findings and recommendations of the government’s review of Initial Teacher Training:

Of all areas of ITT content, we believe the most significant improvements are needed for training in assessment. Findings from the NAHT Commission as well as Ofsted have also found weaknesses in assessment training.

Delivered through a world-class online platform in line with the best available evidence on teacher professional learning. The course follows a micro-lesson structure, designed to fit around your busy timetable and includes insight interviews with experts such as Dylan Wiliam.

It will:

  • Improve the efficiency of assessment practices, helping you reduce workload – do more with less
  • Guide you to question existing practices
  • Help you link assessment with curriculum and pedagogy, to improve student outcomes
  • Reframe the value of assessment, offering case studies and advice from other school leaders
  • Maximise the power of assessment as a tool for learning
