Evidence Based Education is very pleased to announce that we are one of a number of organisations to have been honoured with the prestigious award, personally approved by Her Majesty the Queen!
The work of the EBE team and partner schools has been recognised for its excellence in the Innovation Category of the Queen’s Award for Enterprise, announced on the 23rd April 2019.
EBE has been recognised for breaking the mould of traditional teacher training. Rather than sit people in a room and talk to a set of PowerPoint slides for a day, our focus has been on the development of scalable and collaborative online professional learning. The learning is high-quality in design, includes time for reflection, is structured and includes sequenced opportunities for practice, with a focus on implementation and behavioural change.
Both the Assessment Lead Programme and Assessment Essentials draw upon the best available evidence in effective teacher training, as well as the science behind how learning happens and behavioural insights. You can read here on how we designed the Assessment Lead Programme and how it aligns to the Standards for Teacher’s Professional Development. Furthermore, to get really meta, within our courses we use multiple choice questions to assess participants on their understanding of assessment – including retrieval practice and hinge questions!
EBE’s Director of Education, Stuart Kime, said:
Everything we do is focused on helping educators to improve the quality of information they use to make better decisions about teaching and learning. To do this at scale – while staying true to the evidence, maintaining a high level of quality and keeping things affordable – requires innovative solutions. To be recognised with this award is fantastic. However, we’re not going to rest on our laurels, we’re just getting started.”
Now in their 53rd year, the Queen’s Awards for Enterprise are the most prestigious business awards in the country, with the winning businesses being able to use the esteemed Queen’s Award emblem for the next five years.
Her Majesty The Queen’s local representative, Lord-Lieutenant Mrs Susan Winfield OBE, will present EBE with the award at our offices in Sunderland. Following this EBE staff will celebrate the award during a royal reception for the Queen’s Award winners at Buckingham Palace this summer.
