Tuesday 1st August, 9am – 10:30am
To launch our Residential, we are delighted to welcome Professor Heather C. Hill, Jerome T. Murphy Professor in Education at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. An active member of our Advisory Board, Heather’s primary work focuses on teacher and teaching quality and the effects of policies aimed at improving both. She is also known for developing instruments for measuring teachers’ mathematical knowledge for teaching (MKT) and the mathematical quality of instruction (MQI) within classrooms. Her talk is entitled “Teachers and researchers – evidence-based collaboration“.

Wednesday 2nd August, 8pm – 9:30pm
Wednesday evening sees a talk on “Evidence-based school improvement – challenges, successes and next steps“, with Alex Quigley.
Alex is an English teacher and Director of the Research School at Huntington School, in York. He leads the EEF RISE Project and he was a part of the Teachers’ Professional Development Expert Group for the DfE. He is the author of The Confident Teacher: Developing Successful Habits of Mind, Body and Pedagogy, as well as Teach Now! English, both published by Routledge. He writes articles for both the TES magazine and Teach Secondary magazine. He blogs regularly at theconfidentteacher.com on a range of educational topics, and his Twitter handle is @huntingenglish.

Thursday 3rd August, 8pm – 9:30pm
On Thursday evening, we welcome The EEF’s Chief Executive Sir Kevan Collins, who will provide his “vision for an evidence-based school system“.
Kevan has gained international experience working in Mozambique, supporting the development of a national literacy initiative in the USA and advising Goodstart, Australia’s largest early learning provider. Kevan is a visiting professor at the Institute of Education University of London; he was knighted for services to education in 2015.
