The Great Teaching Toolkit: Evidence Review
A structured point of reference for the things teachers do, know, or believe, which have been found to be related to how well their students learn. The overarching goal here is to help teachers take ownership of their professional learning and to help them enhance their practice for the benefit of students. There is also a (new) manifesto for evidence-based education: twenty years on available to access via the resource library. Professors Rob Coe and Stuart Kime revisit and update Rob’s 1999 ‘Manifesto for evidence-based education’. If you are looking to engage directly with evidence-based education, then this is an excellent resource.
eBooks
There is a wide range of evidence-based eBooks available to download via the resource library. The eBooks can be used to enhance professional learning, covering a wide range of topics, and can also be used to promote discussion, dialogue, and reflection in schools. The eBooks featured include:

Podcasts
At Evidence Based Education we thoroughly enjoy reaching out to leading experts in the field of education and educational research. Through these conversations, we can ask questions, learn more about how evidence-based strategies can be applied to the classroom and listen to the wisdom generously shared by the individuals interviewed. Interviewees include Professors Robert and Elizabeth Bjork, Daisy Christodoulou, Alison Peacock, Adam Boxer, Michael Chiles, Dylan Wiliam, Dr Tracy Alloway, Alex Quigley and many more! Topics covered in the podcast include the science of learning, questioning in the classroom, formative assessment, and feedback amongst other areas of evidence-based education.
Videos and Webinars
Professional learning has transformed in recent years, becoming more flexible and accessible for teachers. One example of this is the access to recorded videos and webinars for teachers to watch at their convenience. The videos can be watched individually, as a department followed by discussion and key reflections or part of whole school professional development.
Discussion boards
A key element of professional development and learning is learning from others, whether that be colleagues in the same department, in the staffroom or from other schools; locally or further afield. The resource library provides educators with an online community to discuss theory, ask questions and share ideas with fellow educators from all over the world!
Did you know there are also free materials available for Developing Great Teaching INSET? To help promote evidence-based discussions and dialogue in schools, we’ve developed a free ‘Deliver It Yourself’ INSET session based on the Evidence Review and the Model for Great Teaching. It includes PowerPoint slides, structured activities, digital materials, instructions, and delivery notes.
To access the free INSET resources, you will need to either log in to your Great Teaching Toolkit starter account, or create a free starter account.
