Rob Coe to join Evidence Based Education

We’re excited to announce Rob Coe will join Evidence Based Education (EBE) on a part-time basis in February 2019 as Director of Research and Development.

Rob, a former maths teacher, joins us from the Centre for Evaluation and Monitoring (CEM) at Durham University where he has worked as a researcher in educational assessment, evaluation and evidence-based practice. Rob has contributed to the writing of some key publications that connect evidence and educational practice. He is a co-author of the Sutton Trust / Education Endowment Foundation’s Teaching and Learning Toolkit and the EEF’s DIY Evaluation Guide for teachers. He is lead author of the Sutton Trust report What Makes Great Teaching? and co-author of the Teacher Development Trust’s Developing Great Teaching report. He is a member of advisory groups for a wide range of educational organisations.

Commenting on his role at EBE, Rob Coe said:

I’m thrilled to be joining EBE at such an exciting point in its progress. I will lead the development of scalable support for teachers and schools to help them better understand and enhance their impact on learners.

Rob was a key collaborator in the development of our Assessment Lead Programme but he’s also been a big influence on EBE – who we are, what we do and why we do it. It’s a little known fact that Rob Coe’s manifesto for evidence-based education was the source of inspiration in establishing the EBE name and mission! This year, 2019, marks the 20^th anniversary of its publication.

Stuart Kime, our Director of Education and co-founder, is looking forward to adding further to the growing team:

These are really exciting times for EBE. Three years ago it was just Jack and me, and in just the last three months we’ve made three great appointments, and welcomed Profs Dylan Wiliam, John Hattie and Steve Higgins to the Advisory Board. All of these steps will further enhance the rigour and scale of support we can offer to teachers and schools, ultimately to help improve the quality of education for young people.

Rob Coe’s appointment is our third recent addition, following in the footsteps of:

• C.J. Rauch, our Head of Teaching and Learning, who studied for both his Masters and PhD at Cambridge University, prior to which he taught history in the US. His research interests include teacher education, teacher epistemology and education policy; and
• Jessica Mason, a Modern Foreign Languages teacher, and now our Head of Assessment. Jessica joins from Teach First, where she worked in curriculum design and was nationally responsible for leading community engagement as Alumni President. Jessica is currently completing a Master of Arts, Education and Leadership programme at the University of Warwick.
